How we look at a property

One yard, front to back

Most projects touch three or four parts of the property. We plan them together, in the order they should be built, so nothing gets dug up twice.

The lot fills in as you go.

  1. Curved flagstone walkway with a dark paver border crossing a lawn to a white farmhouse porch
  2. Backyard graded to bare, even soil with a skid steer at the far end and a wood fence along one side
  3. Stone fire pit in a circular paved seating area, with a curved block wall
  4. Paver path at dusk lit by fixtures set into a block retaining wall, with new plantings along the base

Same yard, same spot

The same yard, before and after

One crew, one sequence

The order the yard gets built in

Every stage sits on the one before it. When three companies each own a piece, this order is nobody’s job. When one crew owns the yard, it is the whole job.

  1. Grade

The ground is shaped so water runs away from the house before anything sits on it.

  2. Drain

French drains, downspout lines, and catch basins go in while the yard is still open.

  3. Irrigate

Sprinkler lines are trenched now, so the new lawn is never dug up later.

  4. Build

Walls, decks, and fences, and the patio with them: the heavy work, on a compacted base.

  5. Sod

Fresh sod laid tight over prepared ground, once nothing else will drive across it.

  6. Plant

Beds, shrubs, and trees, then mulch or pine straw to a clean line.

  7. Light

Fixtures set into the walls and along the paths, aimed after dark.

Who’s doing the work

One company, so you don’t have to manage three

Magnolia Outdoor Living is owned and run by Daniel and David DeAnda. Most yard projects need a landscaper, a hardscape contractor, and somebody for the drainage or the fence, and those three rarely agree on anything. Here, one crew plans the whole yard and builds it in the right order.

We are local to Mobile and Baldwin counties. Daniel and David look at every property, quote it in writing, and are on the job while it is built.

David and his brother came out today and trimmed all my bushes, cleaned out the flowerbeds, and laid down fresh pinestraw. They did a great job. They arrived when they said they would be there and were very professional. I recommend them if you need any of these services.

These guys are very kind and professional! We had some shrubbery removed from around a very large tree. The price was great, the job was done quickly, they took everything with them that they removed and it looks great. We will definitely be calling them again!!

Questions people ask before they call

Do you do the whole yard, or just the landscaping?

The whole thing. Landscaping, sod, retaining walls, fire pits, drainage, irrigation, decks, fences, and lighting all come from the same crew, and so do backyard paver patios. The point of the business is that you do not have to hire three companies and hope they agree with each other.

Where do you work?

Mobile County — Mobile, Theodore, Semmes, and Saraland — and Baldwin County: Daphne, Spanish Fort, Fairhope, Foley, Robertsdale, Magnolia Springs, and Gulf Shores. If you are close to one of those, call and ask.

What kind of grass works in Mobile and Baldwin County?

Warm-season grasses. Centipede is the low-maintenance default for the Gulf Coast, St. Augustine handles shade better, and zoysia and bermuda take more traffic but want more sun and more care. We match the grass to the yard rather than laying the same thing everywhere.

My yard floods every time it rains. Can you fix that?

Usually, yes. It is a grading and drainage problem, not a grass problem: regrading so water runs away from the house, French drains where it collects, and downspouts piped away from the foundation. We fix the water first and then put the lawn back.

Do I need a permit for a deck, a fence, or a retaining wall?

Often. Decks are usually permitted and inspected, some fences need a permit or a setback, and taller retaining walls can need an engineer's design. It varies by city and county, so we tell you what applies to your property at the quote stage.

How do I get a quote?

Call (251) 880-6086 or send the form below with a sentence or two about the project. We come out, walk the property with you, and follow up with a written quote.

Tell us about the yard

A sentence or two is enough. We come out, walk the property with you, and follow up with one written quote for the whole job.

  1. Call or send the form. Tell us what you are picturing and where the property is. We come back to you within one business day.
  2. We walk the property. We look at the ground, the drainage, the sun and shade, and what is already there, and talk through options and budget.
  3. One written quote. One scope and one price for the whole job — lawn, hardscape, drainage, fence — in the order it should be built.
  4. We build it. One crew from the first dig to the last light, with a call if anything changes along the way.
