With an honest walk round it. Some of what is there is worth keeping and pruning back into shape, some of it was planted in the wrong place and will never be right, and some of it is simply at the end of its life. Knowing which is which first saves paying to remove things you would have wanted.
Can you prune and maintain mature shrubs rather than replacing them?
Yes. Overgrown camellias and azaleas can usually be brought back over a season or two rather than pulled out. We would rather do that than sell you replacements for plants that only needed cutting back.
