A patio or walkway that is still flat in five years is all about what is under it. We excavate to depth, put down a compacted crushed-stone base, screed the bedding layer, and lock the edges with restraint before a single paver is set. On the Gulf Coast, where the ground stays wet for weeks at a time, skipping any of that is how patios sink and walkways heave.
We build paver patios in the shape and pattern the space calls for, flagstone and stepping-stone walkways, front-entry paths, and steps up to a porch. Fire pits, seating walls, and lighting can be built into the same job.
Drainage is planned into every patio. Water has to go somewhere, and it should not be under the slab or against the house.

What the price depends on
We do not publish a rate for this, because a number with no yard attached to it is a guess. These are the things that actually move it:
Square footage, and the shape. Curves and cut pieces take far longer than a rectangle
The paver or stone you choose
How much excavation the base needs, which depends on what is under the topsoil
Whether the ground has to be regraded or drained before anything can be laid on it
Access. A machine that can reach the back yard changes the labour considerably
We measure all of it on site. The written quote comes back with the scope, the materials and one price for the whole job, so you are comparing a number to a number rather than one guess to another.
Questions about this work
Pavers or a concrete slab?
Pavers cost more up front and look better for longer. If one settles or cracks it can be lifted and reset; a cracked slab is a cracked slab. On ground that stays wet, a flexible paver base also copes better than a rigid pour.
How thick is the base under your patios?
It depends on the soil and what the patio has to carry, and we dig to suit the site rather than to a one-size number. What does not change is that it is compacted crushed stone in layers, never just sand on dirt.
Can you add a walkway to a yard you did not build?
Yes. Front-entry walkways and side-yard paths are common stand-alone jobs, and we tie them into the existing lawn and beds so they look like they were always there.
