Saraland splits neatly into two kinds of work. There are the established neighbourhoods, where the houses have been there long enough for the trees to get big and the original landscaping to get tired, and there are the newer subdivisions further out.
On an older property the job is usually renovation rather than installation. Beds that have crept out of shape, shrubs planted too close to the house thirty years ago, edging that has disappeared into the lawn, and grass that has thinned out under trees that were saplings when it was laid. That work needs a lighter hand than a bare lot does, because you are working around root systems and existing grades you do not want to disturb. The ground here also rolls more than it does south of the city, so slopes and retaining walls come up regularly.

Our beds are overgrown. Can they be saved or do they need ripping out?
Usually a mix. Established shrubs that are simply too big can often be cut back hard and kept, while anything planted against the foundation or dying in shade is better removed. We walk it with you and say plainly which is which rather than quoting a clearance and starting again.
Grass will not grow under our oaks. What are the options?
Shade is the one thing sod cannot be argued with about. The realistic options are a shade-tolerant grass with thinner coverage, or accepting it and building a bed, a mulched area or a path there instead. We would rather tell you that than sell you sod twice.
Do you build retaining walls on sloped lots here?
Yes. Segmental block walls with drainage stone and proper backfill behind them, which is the part that decides whether a wall is still straight in ten years.
